  • Keep a device or notebook with you wherever you go to record your ideas.
  • Grab10-12 index cards and write down the name of the chapters on each card.
  •  Introduction tips-  start with a question or identify a problem, benefit the reader, outline what the reader will learn, paint a picture of a brighter future. 
  • Conclusion tips-clearly summarize, make it memorable and recommendable, address any lingering issues, and have a call to action.
  • What is your Genre? Also, remember to read in your genre.
  • Celebrate your small wins to build momentum. 
  • Join Facebook groups and other social media groups or start your own group.
  • Go to conferences, seminars, bookstores, libraries, colleges, and other learning environments.
  • Stay in communication with Family, friends, and co-workers who are supportive.
  • Be brave and tell people you are writing a book.

  • Make a To-do list and a Stop doing list.
  • Just WRITE. Remember no edits until the first draft is done.
  • Be consistent in your writing schedule and  limit distractions
  • Take breaks.
  • Be confident in your dream, and doubt is normal with your new identity as a writer.
  • Use proper tenses.
  • Show don’t tell. Showing- Sarah felt for the bench with a white cane. Telling- Sarah was blind.
  • Active vs passive voice- Active: John wrote the book. Passive: The book was written by John.
  • Don’t put 2 books into 1 book.
  • Keep writing and be proud of yourself.

  • Get over the “wall.” 
  • Take a break for a few days and then reread and rewrite your content.
  • Cut words but don’t cut value.
  • Have 1-3 people who will give constructive criticism. 
  • Hire an editor/writing coach.
  • Done is better than perfect.
  • Beware of Imposter Syndrome. 
  • Soon you will be doing book signings and have your book on a bookshelf.
  • Be excited and believe in your book or nobody else will.
